Since our founding in 2010
We have been providing access to the arts for NYC children in foster care.
By cultivating creativity through impactful programs, we empower children in foster care to build resilience, forge meaningful connections, and envision brighter futures.
Culture for One exists to provide critical access to the arts for children in foster care.
OUR MISSION
CULTURE FOR ONE IS COMMITTED TO TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF NEW YORK CITY CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE THROUGH THE POWER OF THE ARTS.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
ADVOCATING for access to the arts.
We strive to help children from all backgrounds participate in, enjoy, and benefit from the transformative power of the arts.
HELPING to change life trajectories.
We work to break the cycle of adversity by offering opportunities in the arts that inspire creativity, build confidence, create community, and open up broader possibilities for the future.
We aspire to uplift vulnerable children and young adults by offering experiences that bring joy and unlock new passions and dreams for the future.
ENRICHING lives in the present & for the future.
our roots
Culture for One was created in 2010 when our Founder, Linn Tanzman, invited Kadijah—a young woman in the NYC foster care system—to attend a Broadway show and share a meal through a partnership with her foster care agency. The profound impact of that experience motivated Linn to expand this opportunity to children across New York City’s foster care system. That year, Culture fFor One served 53 children.
Today, we provide arts programming for thousands of children and young adults (aged 2-26) within the New York City foster care system. This includes children living in foster homes, those adopted from foster care, individuals in residential care, and young people who have aged out and are preparing for independent adulthood.
“Through art, children therapeutically channel their feelings, learn sustainable ways to express emotions, and develop positive coping mechanisms. They take pride in what they accomplish.”
