Linn Tanzman founded Culture for One in 2010 when she invited Kadijah — a young woman in the NYC foster care system — to attend a Broadway show and share a meal. The profound impact of that experience on Kadijah motivated Linn to expand this opportunity to children across New York City’s foster care system.
That year, Culture for One served 53 children.
Today, we provide arts programming for thousands of children and young adults (aged 2-26) within the New York City foster care system. This includes children living in foster homes, those adopted from foster care, individuals in residential care, and young people who have aged out of care and are preparing for independent adulthood.

“Through art, children therapeutically channel their feelings, learn sustainable ways to express emotions, and develop positive coping mechanisms. They take pride in what they accomplish.”
