FAMILY ARTOGETHER

The FAMILY ARTOGETHER PROGRAM is a “shared art experience” designed for foster children and birth parents or foster parents to bond over literature and visual art. This program first developed when we saw how children and their birth or new foster parent(s) can break the ice and bond over a shared art project. The program is designed for children transitioning from a residence to a foster home, as well as for birth parent visits to their children living in residences.

Culture for One assembles packages consisting of a book and materials to create their own work inspired by the text. For instance, one package included the book Parker Looks Up, by Parker Curry and Jessica Curry, about a young girl who comes face to face with Amy Sherald’s portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama. The parent and child read the book together and then, with materials included in the package create a portrait of a person they admire. Culture for One purchases supplies, provides guidance on how to use the materials, and then delivers the packages to our agency partners who distribute them.

“Every Spotifier who participated in the activity had a big smile on their face.
Not only was this a great introduction to Culture for One, it was a fun
team bonding experience.”
