....Children who find their way to NYC’s Children’s Center are among the most fragile and needy children in the City. The opportunity for them, at this critical moment in their lives, to experience the inspiring glow of the arts through Culture For One is indeed a gift. We are all so grateful for your extraordinary efforts.

Many of our youth in care struggle with hope for their future. It was gratifying to hear the panelists discuss the paths they travelled to get to their current place in life. It demonstrated to the youth that with perseverance and hard work they can accomplish their dreams. Many thanks to the panelists for their willingness to share.

I really enjoy everything about this show. It brought me happiness and taught me that there is more to life than being rich. We must always have a dream.

As a CFO volunteer, it’s always a wonderful experience escorting a group of youth to see a show on Broadway, especially for those for whom this is their first theatre experience. It’s like discovering we have a language in common.

Through art, the children are able to therapeutically channel their feelings regarding their current situation. They learn new and sustainable ways of expressing their emotions and positive coping methods. Afterwards, they exhibit pride in their accomplishments.

I have seen changes in the kids who have become involved in the arts and organizations including Culture For One; in terms of maturity, handling themselves properly in public, manners, engaging in conversations and discussions, and their listening skills. It has also helped them with life lessons; which includes improving their time ability to commit and be punctual.

Culture For One figured out that many of our young people in foster care don’t have opportunities to do things that many of us take for granted. By connecting with a young person and inviting them to a cultural event – whether that is a show at the theater or an exhibit at a museum – it gives you a basis for a deeper bond with that young person, while also helping them learn more about themselves and the world. It’s an incredibly important contribution to make to young people in different parts of New York City who have had some really challenging experiences.
